CAREER
ENHANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Take
charge of your career!
In the business world of
today, the only constant is change. We all need an edge to put
us out in front of the competition. Here are three simple suggestions
that will help you get ahead and stay ahead in your career.
CONTINUE YOUR EDUCATION
Working
toward and achieving both academic and professional designations
clearly demonstrate ability, perseverance and commitment to
excellence. All three are traits that companies look for in
their executives.
DEMONSTRATE
YOUR MANAGEMENT SKILLS
Join
at least one professional or volunteer group and work to attain
a position of authority. You will be able to practice management
skills such as organization, the ability to run meetings, the
ability to make effective presentations, and most important
of all, the ability to work with others to accomplish your goals
using delegation and teams. You practice without the fear of
failure because in an outside volunteer position, only your
accomplishments will be visible to your company's management.
LET
RECOGNITION SPEAK FOR YOU
Letters
of appreciation, awards, newsletter articles, all of these are
ways to bring your skills into the spotlight.
To
help you accomplish all of these goals; the LOMA Society of Eastern
New England has developed Career Enhancement Opportunities.
It is a simple program that incorporates each of the three steps
above.
LOMA
Education programs allow you to earn industry specific designations
such as Associate, Annuity Products and Administration or Associate,
Customer Service. The same courses can earn academic credit that
you can use to earn formal educational designations such as MBA.
As
an active member of your local LOMA Society, you can perfect your
management skills without fear of failure.
At
the same time, your work for the Society will earn you recognition
such as letters of appreciation from LOMA and the Society that
are sent to your company executives and to your immediate boss.
Your volunteer work will also earn you Society awards. Finally,
you will receive mention in your company newsletter for your Society
achievements and in national magazines such as Resource magazine
as part of the Society's recognition and publicity.
